Meet RISO’s October Artist of the Month
What is your name and the name of your organization/location?

How long have you been in the art industry?
Since 2019!
How long have you been using RISO duplicators and the method of RISOGRAPHY?
We both interned/worked at Risograph studios during our college years, so since about 2016!
What are some of your favorite colors to use with a duplicator?
So many! We love brown, lime, sunflower, fluorescent orange, and of course blue, yellow, and fluorescent pink can make such a wide range of colors.
Why RISOGRAPHY?
We both have a formal background in printmaking, and our main goal as LPP was to make comics. So Risography was the perfect medium for that goal, and combined the two things that we loved! It made printing comics accessible, easy to disseminate, and ecologically friendly. With Risography, we were able to utilize our printmaking background while making large editions of books, which we wouldn’t be able to do with screen printing or any other printmaking technique. Riso ink is incredibly vibrant and versatile due to its semitranslucent quality, and its dithering effect gives digital images an incredibly tactile and retro look. With all these elements in mind, Risography allows us to create thoughtfully designed comics that convey a sense of warmth and nostalgia.
What would you tell people who are just finding out about RISO Duplicators and the artform of RISOGRAPHY?
Definitely research a little bit of RISOGRAPHY history and the history of zine culture and its importance. And when printing, think of the possibilities of color mixing with as little colors as possible. Limitations create the parameters for interesting results (and it’s easier on your back, RISO drums are heavy)! Have fun!
