Meet RISO’s September Artist of the Month
What is your name and the name of your organization/location?
Jenna Del Vigna // The Relish Society
How long have you been in the art industry?
I have been working as a graphic designer for over 20 years but I am constantly experimenting with other mediums and modes to challenge my inclination for order, function and control.
How long have you been using RISO duplicators and the method of RISOGRAPHY?
I started working with Riso duplicators at the SVA RisoLAB in the summer of 2022.
What are some of your favorite colors to use with a duplicator?
Choosing colors is always a journey. I test a lot before landing on final colors. Some might say I test too much, but i love the process. My favorite colors lately have been Sunflower Yellow and Fluorescent Orange for their vibrance. Medium Blue has a depth that surpasses the flatness of black, Bright Olive Green for its luxuriousness and my new favorite has been Raspberry. If you ask me tomorrow, I will probably have a different answer.
Why RISOGRAPHY?
I was familiar with artists who were using RISO to publish their own works. Riso elevates the quality because of the ability to use vibrant ink to create pieces in a relatively quick manner. I love having more control over my work and there is something completely satisfying about creating my own pieces from start to finish. I love how great a two color piece can look but I truly fell in love with the other-worldly feel of a faux CMYK, RISO photo.
What would you tell people who are just finding out about RISO Duplicators and the artform of RISOGRAPHY?
Experimentation, Testing, and Preparation are Key! (and It always takes longer than you expect but it is worth it. 😉 OH..and Have Fun!
